I am happy to announce the availability of ThinBSD-2004-10-14, the latest
release of ThinBSD.
Departing from previous releases it is based on FreeBSD-5.3BETA7.
All software, including X.org-6.7.0 and rdesktop-1.3.1 has been compiled
with gcc-3.4.2 and -Os to save space and gain speed.
ThinBSD should run reasonnably well on a PC with the following hardware:
- Any i386 architecture CPU with MMX instructions
- Any video chipset supported by the vesa driver
- Native video drivers are included for via, trident and ati chipsets.
- A VIA Rhine or 3Com 3C905 ethernet adapter
This release has been found to run out of the box on VIA Epia ME-6000,
CL-10000, MII-12000 mainboards and diskless terminals made from diverse
junk parts including Athlon and Pentium-4 CPUs and Mach64 graphic cards.
I know the ethernet hardware list is quite short, so if your adapter isn't
supported, whine on the list. I am willing to add a driver or two for the
next release if there is still space left.
